Benjamin Franklin once said "In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." Well he should have added stress in there too.
Everyone deals with stress. It's just part of life. Sometimes it's greater than others, even rendering you useless. And sometimes it's just annoying. Like a bug near your ear.
Regardless the result to the stress carrier is the same, especially the physical part. I know when I'm wigging out I find my breathing shallow, stomach upset and pretty soon my shoulders are up by my ears.
Since I'm not stranger to stress and am the President of the "MUST GET RID OF STRESS" club, I have the following ways of accomplishing this:
1. Talk it out. Whether it's your spouse, best friend or family member, call them, email or find them and talk it out. I always feel better after venting. Especially helps when they agree with you but that's just icing on the cake.
2. Exercise. This has literally been a lifesaver for me and my new relationship. I'm a passionate person who feels things intensely. This is my graceful way of saying I tend to overact. In the past I would turn to food to help ease me. Now? It's exercise. I lace up my shoes and head out the door. After about 30 minutes my nerve ends are tucked back in and I can see the world clearly again.
3. As I mentioned above, I used to turn solely to food when I was upset. And of course, not GOOD food. But now another good way to unwind is to take the time to make yourself a delicious and nutritious meal. I find that the time it takes to chop, cook and eat, by then all my worries have either faded or at least eased up. Crystal Light in a great addition to these meals. Especially with all their different flavors, you can find one to go with any meal.
4. And when all else fails, I light some candles, put in a really fantastically chick flick movie and shut out the world.

I manage stress by taking time out, walking away if I need to, and taking deep breaths.

I LOVE weeds. Seriously. that woman can manage some stress. (not well, but she's doing it!)
ReplyDeletei manage stress best by sleeping. Now, that's not always possible - as much as I'd like to take a nap in the weekly staff meeting, getting fired would probably create more stress. That said, making sure that I get a good nights sleep is essential to my ability to manage stress. Which also leads to making better food choices for me.
I manage it by drinking too much wine and yelling like a crazy lady.
ReplyDeleteNo, wait, that's not the right way. I manage stress by taking a nice long bath with a good book.
I deal with stress by writing. Often writing stresses me out.
ReplyDeleteIn those times I take great comfort in breakfast cereal.
I also manage stress by taking a short trip to the gym or hiding in my bedroom to watch a good movie. But leaving work at work helps as does simply reading to my kids and not worrying about the laundry or other chores that can wait.
ReplyDeleteManaging stress... Good doctors with better meds and deciding I'm going to live my life the way I want. Now just to convince everyone else. :)
ReplyDeleteI manage stress by cleaning. After all, that's why I'm stressed in the first place. If I get rid of the clutter, I can breath again.
ReplyDeleteI avoid being stressed as much as I can using Doterra Essential Oils. They have a Lavender one that is supposed to relieve stress and it does, it is amazing what it does!
ReplyDeleteI get on the computer when I am stressed. (I am not sure if it helps decrease my stress all the time but it definitely helps)

ReplyDeleteI've been managing stress by concentrating on slow, deep breathing. I'm moving into something new, however: I'm about to begin yoga for the first time. Can't wait!

I'm usually stressed out because something needs to get done and I don't want to do it, so I try to tackle at least one really hard task. Once that is done some of the other small stuff doesn't seem so bad anymore and I can easily cross a couple more things off the to-do list. I remind myself I don't have to do it all at once, but that baby steps will get me there. Then I reward myself with my favorite "me time" activity to melt all the other worries away: running alone with my music.
ReplyDeletePolishing my jewelry is a great stress reliever for me. (I might have to buy more because they have all been worn down to the nub!) :D
